As stated in the read me/troubleshooting guide that comes with the game, Max Payne is not supported under Windows XP. This is because the game shipped before XP did, so it was never tested under this operating system. Some users have gotten it to work by getting the latest drivers for their sound and video card and making sure they have the latest patch for the game, but we cannot guarantee compatibility with all systems. In general, if the operating system you are using is not listed on the requirements on the game box, it is unsupported for that title and may not work on your system.
